THE BENJI PROJECT
The CDRS Benji Animal Shelter in Karachi had tragic beginnings, we had focused our efforts in Karachi mostly on TNVR and our ambulance service until we were asked to take over a struggling shelter that was in shambles; it's animals in dire straits and everything falling apart.
In less than a year and a half, we have not only revamped, relocated and brought the animals back to life - we are seeing them thrive with happy smiles and full bellies!

ANIMALS IN OUR KARACHI SHELTER
OUR FACILITY
Our Karachi facility is located in Dumba Goht Malir, a quiet area surrounded mostly by other farms. We have 2 acres of space, sectioned out to accommodate our rescues.
We have a medical clinic, an OT and medical boarding where all intakes spend 1-2 weeks before being inducted into the main shelter area.
Our shelter manager and team are meticulous about disease control, cleanliness and of course quality of food; the animals and staff also indulge in playing games and general activities to keep the shelter environment peaceful and lively.
OUR 3 MAIN OBJECTIVES
Across the CDRS Benji Shelters we focus on 3 main objects, but alongside these we also provide assistance and rescue services to the rescue community in each location. We believe in empowering each individual and educating others to join our collective cause.
01.
ANIMAL RESCUE
Through reports on our social media pages our team rescues injured, abused, orphaned and abandoned animals from the streets and brings them to our facility for medical treatment where we have a fully functional clinic with an experienced team of vets.
Our shelter manager, vets & staff work tirelessly to save every animal that comes in by ensuring they are given proper medical treatment, good nutrition and bundles of love to encourage them to heal.
02.
TNVR SERVICES
TNVR (trap, neuter, vaccinate, release) is an effective, scientifically proven, environmentally safe, and Islamically permissible method of controlling the population of stray animals.
Our team captures the animals and bring them to our facility where they are quarantined for a few days, to ensure they won’t pass any disease to others. Then our team of professional veterinarians neuters or spays them and nurses them back to health.
This follows anti-rabies shots, and then the dogs are released back in the area they know of as home.
03.
EDUCATION & EMPOWERMENT
With our network around the country within our organization and fellow shelters and rescuers, we empower others doing the same work, to continue their operations through financial help and support. Together our focus is on working together to increase awareness for the plight of animals across the nation.
THE BACKSTORY
The CDRS Benji Animal Shelter in Karachi came about when we were asked to investigate a struggling, failing shelter. When our team visited, the shelter and its animals were in complete dire straits due to lack of management, lack of expertise and complete negligence.
We immediately accepted the shelter as part of our Benji Project, took over operations and began a complete revamp of the shelter premises and team, including ensuring the animals were all given thorough medical checkups and proper nutrition.
We also hired a dedicated professional team with ample experience and an abundance of empathy to ensure the animals at this shelter would never suffer at the hands of negligent humans again and we spared no cost within our means to make it happen.
1.5 YEAR LATER...
Not only were we able to establish a beautiful new shelter in Karachi to provide safe haven to the original population of the shelter, we also have become a popular hub to take in orphaned, disabled and abandoned animals on a regular basis.
Our rescue ambulance for Karachi works tirelessly around the city and we are in the process of setting up a TNVR Clinic and operation theater with medical boarding to extend our help out to an even larger population of street animals.
After the successful result and impact of TNVR Center Islamabad, the Karachi centre has also shown excellent results . Since taking over the shelter, a total number 294 animals have been rescued, fed and medicated. Of these, there were 78 dogs, 122 puppies, 43 cats, 25 kittens, 11 donkeys, and 15 birds.
Proudly, as of August 2023, 80% of our animals are neutered and spayed at the shelter with our TNVR facilities being offered to people for their own street and rescued animals.
